WI lawmakers voice reservations over legalizing medical marijuana

By smokein - Posted on 03 January 2010

MADISON (WKOW) -- Two state lawmakers are expressing reservations about supporting a bill that would legalize medical marijuana.

Assembly Speaker Mike Sheridan of Janesville, says he needs more information before he can take a position and cautions that lawmakers have to be careful that legalizing marijuana for medical purposes doesn't become a "slippery slope" toward full legalization of pot.

Senate majority leader Russ Decker of Weston, thinks more work needs to be done on the bill.

Supporters of legalization believe that medical marijuana will help the chronically ill combat severe pain. However, opponents argue that there are more effective alternatives to pot.
