2008 Global Marijuana March Update
Thank you for your interest in the 2008 Global Marijuana March. Part of this demonstration is being held on Saturday May 3rd, 2008 in Washington DC. We have never had so many people contact us this early about the GMM here in Washington DC. Thank you, and also thank High Times Magazine for hooking us up. The 2008 Global Marijuana March is being held in over 200 cities around the world. The purpose of this demonstration is to protest marijuana prohibition peacefully. The people who organize these events worldwide are mostly volunteers like myself who want to stand up and say that we deserve Equality and Respect in our communities. Together with other cities around the world we are protesting on the same day as a mass protest in different locations. Just think, everywhere you go in the world there are people like us, Stoner's, Hippies and Potheads. People who just want to experience just a little more of the freedom in this world that we live in.
Here in Washington DC, activists are making tentative plans for a march, rally and concert pending permit approval by the National Park Service and the Metropolitan Police Department. As we did last year, we plan to gather at 12:00 noon in Farragut Square. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Farragut_Square The march begins at12:00 noon with a short rally before we start marching (North) on the side walk of Connecticut Avenue through Adams Morgan and (West) on Euclid Street to the entrance of Meridian Hill Park (Euclid & 16th Street NW) where the march ends around 2:00pm. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Meridian_Hill_Park After the march, a rally and concert will be held from 2:00-6:00pm in Meridian Hill Park. Organizations supporting Drug Policy Reform are needed for this part of the demonstration. As we get closer to the GMM we will need your help distributing posters, postcards and flyers to promote the big day. These materials can be picked up on weekdays near the Takoma Park Metro. A few mass communications from around the world will also be sent by groups and activists in other locations through the 2007 GMM website. The postings from the different cities are very interesting because you begin to see that there are people just like us everywhere in the world and what kind of struggles they have on their hands. http://www.globalmarijuanamarch.org Recently we changed the web address for the Fourth of July Smoke-In, the new web address is: http://www.smoke-in.org We need your help to fund this demonstration! please visit WWW.REIGNITE-IT.COM and purchase Greatest Hits Of The Smoke-In Vol.1 Your contributions help fund the 2008 GMM and 39th Annual Smoke-In. http://www.reignite-it.com .
